Silver Institute to Update “Future of Silver Industrial Demand” Report
(Washington, D.C. – August 10, 2012) The Silver Institute will update last year’s popular “The Future of Silver Industrial Demand” report this fall.
The update will provide fresh insight into global silver industrial demand as well as offer a review of 2012 to-date and a short-term outlook. It will also examine silver’s role in consumer products, focusing on silver content in a range of market segments, which will include:
- Cell phones
- Tablet computers
- Laptops
- Photovoltaic cells
- Televisions
- E-books
- Automobiles
Last year’s report projected industrial uses of silver should rise appreciably in the coming years and as such will account for over 60 percent of total fabrication demand in 2015. By comparison, in 2011, 486.5 Moz of silver were consumed in industrial applications, accounting for 55% of global fabrication.
The update is slated for a September release and will be prepared by Thompson Reuters GFMS on behalf of the Silver Institute.
Established in 1971, the Silver Institute serves as the industry’s voice in increasing public understanding of the many uses and values of silver. For more information on the Silver Institute, or silver in general, please visit www.silverinstitute.org.
